Home Learning

Everything you need for your Home Learning can be found on these pages.

Every week of term you are expected to do a little homework each night from Monday to Thursday.  Why? For a number of reasons but mostly because Home Learning develops your personal management and reinforces important skills learnt at school.

Each night your should work on these four things.

  1. Reading - We will visit the library every Wednesday so that you can choose your reading books.  One book will stay at school and the other will go home for the week.  Read aloud to your parent/caregiver for 20 minutes each night from the library book you chose from school or another book that your parent approves.  Mix it up a bit - try reading an article from the newspaper or from Kiwi Kids News.   Your parents might also allow you to read silently in your bed before you go to sleep.
  2. Basic Fact Learning - At school we learn our basic facts using XtraMath.  At home you can use any of these Basic Fact games and/or e-Ako.
  3. Spelling - Complete this week's assignment on SpellingCity.com.
  4. PRIDE Homework (optional) - Click here for more information on PRIDE.

Extra Challenge - Learn to Type and the Future is Yours!

The chances of you needing to be able to use a keyboard quickly at school or in your job are high.  I hope you will be using the computer keyboard almost everyday.  My two sons both touchtype (or automatic key as it is know today).  It looks cool and it is very easy to learn.

Try visiting the Typing.com website every day and work your way through the levels.  Be careful to always place you fingers on the right keys and DON'T LOOK!
