Easy Blog Photo

Today group F are practising athletics. The activity we are doing is sprints.  In the video the second group went racing, we think that Cole won the second (close) race for group F.  For this activity, we watched a video of how to start a running race and brainstormed the things athletes to do improve their running.  Next we went onto the field and tried it out for ourselves.

Colouring

Easy Blog Photo

Today at lunch Charlotte, Bella and I decided to do some colouring.  We drew some pretty weird things. In the photo Charlotte and Bella are are using the felt tips to draw their creations.  The video tells you everything about our drawings.  Bella was the only one to draw something somewhat normal which is weird.

Eggy Play Dates

Easy Blog Photo

This week the senior syndicate are doing an egg challenge. In this challenge we only get two chances to look after an egg. This challenge is so we can get used to having smaller children around for when we can baby sit children in couple of years time.  Most people have not cracked an egg yet but that doesn't mean that eggs haven't been cracked!  This activity is great fun! The egg with the sock is mine and the one with its eyes open is Bella's egg.

Reading The History Of The Olympics

Easy Blog Photo

JessieY is reading a book called "The history of the Olympics".  It's about people who participated in the Olympics back in history.

This page is about Kristin Otto who did swimming in Seoul in 1988. At the age of 22, she won GOLDS in all of the events she entered!!!  The events she participated were; 100 metres freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, the 50 metres freestyle and the 4 x100 metres freestyle and medley relays.  A medley race is a race with four different strokes that go in the order; butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.  Kristin Otto won six shiny gold medals, that's the most ever won by a female in Olympic history!

Before Seoul, she won three gold medals at the 1982 World Championships and four in the 1986 World Chapionships. Kristin Otto started swimming at the age of six!

Reading Groups During Flexi Time

Easy Blog Photo

In this photo Charlotte is reading a story out of a school journal. Charlotte is in a group with Logan, Tasia, Ricky and others. They are reading a non-fiction (real) story.  They are focusing on persuasive reading.  The story that they are reading is called "Switching Sides" it's about a time when Samoa made he decision to change from driving on the right side of the road to the left (like NZ). I could hear them coming up with some "fantabulous" ideas.  Group 9 definitely had an awesome reading time.  The way they were reading was to read, talk about ideas, read some more and then talk about ideas and so on.

Olympics Cycling Quiz

Easy Blog Photo

Today we did a fun quiz.  At first some people didn't know what the quiz was about. By the end we all found out what the quiz was about, CYCLING!!!

The quiz was a fun way to start our topic. Our topic is NOT Cycling, like you thought or the Olympics, but our topic is called "What a drag!"

One of the questions was what New Zealand's Scientists have been making for our cyclists bikes? The answer was WHEELS!!! But for our topic we are having a drag race and making our own cars to race. This topic is going to be fun I can tell already!!!

D- Drop E-Everything A-And R-Read -  Every day we do reading. We call this time DEAR.  It is very silent at this time.  Christie is reading a book called "Magic Kitten Double Trouble". We all really enjoy this time after lunch.   As Mr. P would say "the classroom could just fall down but we wouldn't even notice the way we are reading."

Flexi Time

Easy Blog Photo

Aliya is doing her atlas work.  Atlas is one of the ten activities on our checklist, such as reading group, writing workshop, handwriting, spelling, reading activity, Mihi memorisation, library book exchange, writing group task, Xtra Maths and atlas.  Mihi memorisation is a new activity instead of word work.  Atlas is a "Can Do" task on our checklist.  This means we can do it when we have done a little bit of everything else.   All other tasks are "Must dos".

Dojo Point Winners

Easy Blog Photo

We have Class Dojo in our class. Mr P. and all the other teachers give out Dojo points according to our behaviour.   There are good dojo points and bad dojo points.  Every Monday we get to see who the chocolate fish (buzz bar because they don't sell chocolate fish any more) winners are for the previous week.  This is a reward for good behaviour.  In this photo Jess and Abbey are holding their buzz bars. They look very happy.

Quick Ten

Easy Blog Photo

Every morning we have quick ten. Quick ten is a ten minute writing session, our whole syndicate does it all at the same time. When the time is up we go onto our handwriting, we all go at a different pace when we do our handwriting.  Next we go onto our Flextime or literacy.  Maddie has gone right into her writing.

Assembly's Techno Kids

Easy Blog Photo

Every assembly the Techno Kids help out with the technology.  This week Oliver and Noah are the Techno Kids.   They are very important in assembly because they have to know how to use the sound desk and data projector, they use the computers and the microphones. You can see they are happily doing their duties.  The Techno Kids also swap around every week, each person gets a chance to be a leader and an assistant.

P.R.I.D.E Homework Presentations

Easy Blog Photo

At the start of the year we were given a sheet with all our activities in it.   P.R.I.D.E Homework is a optional homework task and a number of people in our class have chosen to do these tasks.

Jessie has researched 29 different types of sea creatures. This was her favourite sea creature, it is a shrimp.  The description is: This is called a colourful peacock.  One million pounds of shrimp are eaten every year by Americans.

Jessie has obviously spent a lot of time working on this cool piece of information.

Buddy Reading

Easy Blog Photo

Every Friday we go to our buddy reading class, our reading class is rooms 2&3, those two classrooms are conjoined so we go with both.  Today I am buddied up with Brianna, she has been working hard on her reading, she read me a book called "Blackbirds" and had no trouble reading words like "incubates" and "territory"!  This book told me all about the lifecycle of blackbirds.

After we all read with our buddies we come together as a group and read a big book.   This week we are reading a book called "Where's my Teddy?"

XtraMath

Easy Blog Photo

Everyday we have Xtramath go around the classroom, it is an app that helps us with our basic facts. We can level up from addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  When we have completed our practice we get a big tick on our names!  For our class we get one whole Class Dojo point for working together to pass the tablets on to each other so that we finish the entire class in one day!

Treaty Of Waitangi

Easy Blog Photo

We have been looking at some of the history of the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi). This photo shows us a lot about how they signed the treaty.  They had their name hand-written down and had to sign with a little squiggle that used to be like signatures. The treaty would have been taken all over the country to be signed.

How To Make Slime!😜

  • 0
The video shows you how to make a bigger batch of slime but the way we made it is a perfect size for kids!

The way we made it:

 Ingredients are:

  • 1/2 teaspoon borax (can be found at Bunnings. Borax is a powder washing detergent like salt, it starts off as a crystal!)
  •  1/2 cup of water 1/4 cup of water
  •  1.25 OZ bottles of elmers glue x2
  • (Optional) food colour

Method

  1. First add the borax and 1/2 cup of water in a container and mix.
  2. In another container add both the glue bottles 1/4 cup of water (add colour if wanted) and mix.
  3. Add both mixtures together in a large container.
  4. Start kneading until you get a perfect slime.

HAVE FUN!!!😝 By Caitlyn and Maddie!!!
