Maths
Today we are doing maths at a different time to usual because we have superstar cricket at our usual maths time. I'm in the "Pieces" group and my group is the teaching group with Mr P. First we are learning how to link fractions to percentages using a hundred board on the whiteboard. The board is on the Internet and it is called Tesiboard. We are using it to tell what the fraction Mr P coloured in. Lots of it was easy. We also learnt about the words percent and percentage.
100 Word Challenge
Every week rooms 9, 10 and 12 do the 100 word challenge. We have to write one hundred words. Every week there is a prompt. Sometimes the prompt is a picture or a sentence/phrase.This week we had to use the words Flamingo, Black, Extraordinary, Poked and Underneath. We do the 100 word challenge on the computer. On the last day we have for flexi time we have to comment on people from Westburn Schools work. When we comment on the kids for Westburn School work we have to write two stars (2 good/positive comments) and a wish (something we want them to do/improve). Westburn school is supposed to comment on our work, but none of us have received a comment from them ... yet!
Flexi Time
Backpack Challenge
As a part of our Forced to Flee topic we have done a backpack challenge. In my bag I packed a piece of paper with birth certificate written on it. I also packed my soft toy monkey Rex which reminds me of my Nana. My Nana knitted Rex a colourful jersey. I didn't bring gloves because my Dad said you could put socks on our hands instead.
Mr P adds: The backpack challenge simulates what refugee children might have to do when they have to flee their home.
DEAR ( Drop Everything And Read)
At DEAR time we read for ten to twenty minutes or more depending on what Mr P is doing or needs to do. Jaxan and I are both reading Harry Potter books. I'm reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Jaxan is reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Both books are long and take a while to read but Jaxan and I enjoy these books. We have also watched the movies.
Pentominoes
Room 12 maths have been working on 3D pentominoes. We are using isometric dot paper to draw our 12 pentominoes. After we had found all 12 possible pentominoes we joined Mr P's class on Project Ignite and then learnt how to use TinkerCAD.
TinkerCAD is a website where you can make 3-dimensional (3D) shapes. After we had completed five lessons on how to learn Tinkercad we can make our 3D pentominoes and then we would be put into groups of ten or twelve and every one would be able to print one pentomino out on the 3D printer.

Risk Taking
With Mrs Smith we are getting in groups of four and get a piece of paper spilt into four. We each draw or write something we are scared of then we talk about what risks we can take. In my group there is Jaxan, Christie, Finn and me. We had to choose one person in our group to go up and get a M&M from a bag Mrs Smith had and whatever colour they got they they to answer a question about risk taking and they got to eat the M&M. The person we choose was Jaxan.
