Friday 28 October - Just about every day we read our book.  We have just finished "Wonder" and now we are reading "The Ghost of Tarawera".   It is an interesting story about Ghosts on Lake Tarawera.

Friday 28 October - Today people who do choir are singing some songs, two of them without the sheets of the words.   We are now practicing our notes with Mr Peacock's tablet piano.

Tuesday 25 October - All of the class swap for math we are doing number of the day.   In room 10 our number of the day is 120.  Three people share their sentence by taking away the 120 and now we are doing table challenge.

Year 6

Tuesday 25 October - Room 12 are creating a self-portrait.  We are creating colourful letters of our first name and spacing them out in boxes.  Some names are long so they need two pieces of the paper.  Ashleigh is posing for her self-portrait photo.

Wonder

Now we are reading Wonder (our class shared novel).   Mr P is reading but we are reading in our heads from the projection on the board.   It is interesting with August's face it's just bad luck for him.  We are up to a chapter called The Play.   It's about Via's (August's sister) school play but Via does not get that much to say because she is the understudy.  It's going to be interesting.

Beating The Wind

We are reading Beating the Wind.   It is a story about Zephyr and a Doctor her name is Lindsey Underwood.   Lindsey is a scientist who is helping Zephyr to beat the wind because she lost the cycling race.

Silent Reading

It is time to silent read.   We do that every day after lunch.   Ashleigh is reading the Gymnasts,  Team Trouble and Maddie is reading Write On.  Shannen is reading Ellie and the Butterfly Kitten and Mr P is working with his group.

Mr P adds: The video below was shot before the teacher returned from lunch and while everyone was preparing for silent reading.  Our reading time is much, much quieter.

Maths

We are doing maths we are working on this green sheet that is stuck on the board.   Shannen is being the teacher for the sheet.   Next we do the table challenges,  Libby verses Jayden and Libby won!

Maths/Science

We are going to see if our cars are speed down the track at consistent speed.   We have to use a computer to record our times.   There are four groups and Mr P says "Three, two, one and the cars go down the track.

Go Noodle

Everyone is going to do Go Noodle.   Everyone is excited about the new game.   Everyone is screaming and Mr P is going good at Go Noodle break.   It is great fun and everyone is great.

Wonder

This is Wonder, the story we have been reading for months now. This chapter is sad when August's dog Daisy went to the vet because she was very sick and old. Then mum and dad came home but something was missing, Daisy was put down. Then August went to his room and looked at his mountain of toys and teddies. He climbed into the mountain and cried. We felt upset reading this chapter because it reminded us of our pets.


Assembly

It is time to go to assembly!  The Middle Syndicate are running the assembly.   They won't start if there is noise.  They start with birthday cards then we sing happy birthday.   Next they show us a museum video.  They stayed at the museum for a night.  After that we are watch a person show as how to cry at outer space then they read us their letters from outer space. Finally each class shares a story they have written.  Now Mr McKinlay is now hands out the certificates.

Choir

Now we are doing a practice for the choir so we can remember all the words for songs.   We are singing; I got this feeling, Mamma Says, California Dreaming.  There's also a David Bowie Medley; Star Man, Heroes.  It was fun and we had to sing with out the words on the wall.  We did get to see the start of every song.

PALS Game

We are now playing a PALS game its called Battleships.   There are two teams who have to hit people on the other side to get the other team out.  We are with room 9 but it is mix up teams.  If a plays get out they have to sit down of the down on the floor or the couch.   So we have to make sure we don't get hit and be careful that people beside us don't get hit by our hands.

Group Time For Year Six

Year sixes have group time.  That means doing their job of responsibility.   Their responsibilities are green team, mentor, techno kids and PALS.

Techno Kids are some people that has a class to tell the dally notices and care for the computers in the classrooms.  

The Green Team are cleaning up the leaves and planting.

PALS are people who get to be in the sport shed.  Also on Fridays the PALS take each class to play a game they chose.  

Mentors  help other kids in a class if they are making stuff in class sometimes we take three kids to play.

Buddy Reading

Room 12 went to room 2 to do buddy reading  with our buddies.   They read to us and after that we go to the mat and the teacher reads a big book to all of us.   Today we are reading "A Big Surprise" about adult animals that give their babies a big food surprise.

Monday 9 May It was time for maths everyone has different maths class.    We did takeaways and addition, divided by  and times tables.  We had a game after all this maths and then it's morning tea.

Buddy Reading

Now we are going to room 2 and 3 for buddy reading.   We chose a partner and we will be reading with them or play a game with them so we still have fun with them.  We will have fun with their teacher reading a big book to us after.  Then it's lunchtime after buddy reading.

PAL's Game

We are going to play capture the flag.   It is Room 12 verses Room 9.   The goal is to steal the other team's rugby ball and get it over the halfway line to get a point.   If you get tagged you have to sit down until you get tagged by your team, then you have to go back to your team goal.  One important rule is no cheating!

Flexi Time

  • spelling 
  • handwriting 
  • writing workshop

Some kids are on Xtra Math.

Mr P adds: We have a checklist of activities to work on.  The checklist includes suggested times to spend on each task.  We can choose where to work, who to work with (if anyone) and what order to do most activities in.  During this time teachers are running writing workshops and working with reading groups.
